Trane Commercial Equipment Upgrades 2024

Trane commercial equipment upgrades were recently announced by Trane Technologies.  They included redesigns for the Precedent Rooftop Unit line, updates to some of their split and variable air volume products along with new indoor unit styles for the Trane/Mitsubishi Electric HVRF product line.

This is why K & D Mechanical uses Trane equipment. Because they are always on the fore front of innovation.  We’re going to give you an overview of these upgrades and new equipment.

Doing our part to curb global warming

VP of Product Management Oakley Roberts said, “Trane is making it easier for building owners, engineers, and contractors to help make headway in all these areas (decarbonization, refrigerants for low global warming) with additions to the market-first all-electric HVRF, more rooftops and split systems that are equipped with low-GWP refrigerants, and the completion of the next-generation Precedent line that help consistently deliver on expectations.”

All-electric hybrid VRF line additions

Trane commercial equipment upgrades includes adding two families of indoor units to the Trane/Mitsubishi Electric HVRF (Hybrid Variable Refrigerant Flow).  The only all-electric hybrid VRF unit on the market.

How does HVRF work?

The HVRF system uses a combination of refrigerant to connect the outdoor units to the Hybrid Branch Controller (HBC) and water to connect the HBC to the indoor units.  This 2-pipe system fuses the advantages of VRF and hydronic chillers into an all-electric heat pump that heats/cools while reducing refrigerants in the whole system.

In addition to the existing ceiling-concealed indoor units, there are now ceiling cassettes and wall-mounted options.  These new styles give installers (like us) more flexibility during installations to better match the esthetics and design of your commercial space.

Multi-zone capability

This system helps any owner who has a multi-zone commercial building that needs to be able to set various rooms at different temperatures.   The end result?  Hitting your sustainability goals through electrification and still meeting ASHRAE 15 refrigerant requirements.

This will be helpful on retrofits or new hotels, multi-family complexes, offices, etc.  You get the benefits of VRF while managing life cycle cost and system efficiency.

Electric HVRF indoor units’ feature

Precedent RTUs offer new features

These light commercial packaged rooftop units now have low-GWP R-454B refrigerant.  This means small commercial offices, restaurants, warehouses, and government buildings can operate more sustainably.

Precedent is the most complete, consistent line of light commercial packaged RTUs coming in capacities from 3 to 25 tons.  With 3 levels of efficiency ratings-standard, high and ultra-high eFlex-there’s one for every budget.

Foundation RTUs upgrades

These latest changes to the Foundation line will make it easier and faster to install these units, making sure they work more efficiently from day one.

Trane has a name change

Trane’s RAUJ models are now called IntelliCore Large Split Systems.  With these systems you can lower operational costs and still meet sustainability goals.  They can be installed on the ground or combined with air handlers, chillers, and climate chargers when RTUs won’t work.

Large, air-cooled condensing units feature

Odyssey split systems

Another option when RTUs aren’t feasible, Odyssey split systems now include features to make them more flexible and convenient to meet decarbonization efforts.

VariTrane VAV series is redesigned

The VAV (variable air volume) series have been upgraded and are less noisy at full and part- load.  Quieter operation means they are ideal wherever acoustics are essential, like schools, healthcare facilities or commercial buildings.

In short, they work with Trane building automation systems (BAS) for better performance.

As you can see, Trane continues to be innovative by including features that help with decarbonization and sustainability.  Contact K & D Mechanical, Inc. if you want to learn more about Trane commercial equipment upgrades or get an estimate on your new project.
